Deltona & Orange City Women’s Clubs

July 31st, 2012 Posted in Business, Girl Stuff

If you are lucky enough to live in one of these fantastic Central Florida cities, there is a creative, community based club that needs your input and membership.

Orange City Village Improvement Association is a founding member of the GFWC Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs and has a long volunteer heritage in Central Florida. This club has been an integral part of helping to preserve the history or Orange City and offers a book you can obtain from them that reviews the rich local history from the late 1800s through present day.  The members have recently created a Facebook page so anyone can learn about the club, contribute to posting local information or freely contact them.  Here’s a link: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Orange-City-Womans-Club-VIA/260910120649838

Deltona’s Women’s Club is affiliated with the GFWC and the GFWC Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs, we are a diverse group of women of all ages whose challenge is to empower women to become leaders within their communities through volunteerism. Our theme of caring, sharing and daring to be a presence in our community is exemplified by our participation in city functions and events, our support of local charities and our desire to help those less fortunate than ourselves. We do all this while having fun.  The website is about to be updated so please bear with us: http://www.deltonawc.org/

Spinach Dip with Water Chestnuts

July 31st, 2012 Posted in Recipes

This is one of my absolute favorite snacks to have around.  The kids even love it. And use my substitution tips to up the protein content of the dish and bring it naturally into balance!

Take one package of Simply Organic Spinach Dip Mix  and add 2 cups of sour cream as the recipe state or substitute Greek Yogurt for a healthier twist.  You can also add a big handful of fresh spinach either when you mix it or after it has set.  Make sure to refrigerate for at least 2 – 4 hours before serving to allow the flavors to blend.

I also add one can of diced water chestnuts to add that wonderful crunch if I intend to serve with crackers.  If not, just use carrot sticks to scoop it up to get that same crunch and great flavor!

Meditation 101

July 26th, 2012 Posted in WholeSum Thoughts

You’ve heard all of the reports on how meditation can lower your blood pressure, reduce stress, improve your memory and more but you still don’t do it.  Try this.  Dedicate just two minutes in the morning and two minutes in the evening by sitting quietly doing this simple breathing exercise.  Breath in for a count of 6, hold for a count of 8, exhale for a count of 6-8.  Do this for two minutes and you’ll see a change that may motivate you to try other forms of meditation like yoga, tai chi or Qi Gong.

Stay-cation – Spa treatments – Foot scrub

July 26th, 2012 Posted in Beauty, Girl Stuff, Product replacements, Recipes

This summer, many of us are having fun just staying home and pampering ourselves.  I’ll be posting many recipes to help you stay on budget and still get quality results.  Here’s the first installment:

Homemade Foot Scrub

Mix the juice of 2 lemons with baking soda to create a paste.  scrub damp feet with paste and rinse in warm water.

The above scrub is not only refreshing but the lemon juice contains antibacterial properties that may help to prevent some common foot fungi.
