Plan ahead

March 13th, 2014 Posted in Business, Finance Tips

EisenhowerWell it is the time of the year to try and plan ahead. Sometimes we do business with more financial institutions then is really necessary and it can help to consolidate some accounts. Old retirement plans where you used to work, or from distant cities where you used to live or travel to. Planning is essential. Here is a quote from D. Eisenhower “In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.” Keeping as much of your money as legally possible can be a real battle that you want and need to win.

Think about the long term!

March 4th, 2014 Posted in Business, Finance Tips

Remember when investing you are making decisions for the long term. Don’t be swayed by short term news and events for they will rapidly pass into history. Remember your investing plan sell if your plan calls for it but beware of short term events. Once you sell, you must then make a decision as to what to buy and when. Plus you have now incurred additional expenses and possibly tax consequences.

Dental Discounts can save you 100s

February 25th, 2014 Posted in Business, Finance Tips

imagesWell now everyone who wants health insurance has an opportunity to acquire insurance but what about health conditions that are not covered by health insurance but that can still leave you wondering how am I going to pay for this necessity. Due to a broken tooth I recently found out about Dental discount plans. This is NOT insurance but a way to reduce your bill. One of the office workers at my dentist told me about it and even suggested a company that their office accepted and she felt was a good value for the money. So I just typed in dental discount plans in my search engine and up came a list. I signed up for the plan she had suggested and my $963 bill became $610 instead. It cost me $119.95 for 15 months of the plan and it even gives me a discount on cleaning twice a year. So hopefully this information can help someone else save at the dentist. If anyone knows about any other discount plans how about e-mailing the information to me at chel106638@yahoo.com and then it can be passed on to everyone.

The market is down but it does not mean that you need to panic. If you own good stocks that are paying a dividend the dividend will continue. It is even better if you are in a drip plan when the price goes down you get more shares for your dividend.

How many financial institutions do you use?

January 15th, 2014 Posted in Business, Finance Tips

imagesDo you know how many financial institutions you do business with? It might be more then you realize. There is your local bank, credit cards from stores, an old retirement plan and maybe a new retirement plan. How about your broker and if you have an IRA. Maybe a joint account with an elderly parent or a child. It is a good idea to look at these accounts and see if maybe you can consolidate them for ease of record keeping for the coming year.

Remember what Albert Einstein said…

January 8th, 2014 Posted in Business, Finance Tips

Albert_Einstein_1947aRemember what Albert Einstein said about imagination. “It points to all we might yet discover and create.” Now is an excellent time of the year to look at your portfolio and imagine where it will be in the time frame that you have chosen. Don’t worry about the predictions for the ups and downs of the market. Generally 99% of them are wrong. A stopped clock is correct twice a day. Do what you need to do to get to where you want to be, not what someone else says you should do.
