Juicing! A great way to get vitamins without the fiber.

August 16th, 2012 Posted in Recipes

You’ll show your age if you recognize this name, Jack LaLane is one of the best known names in fitness but it’s also associated with a great Juicing machine that is affordable and durable.  Here’s a link to one selling on Amazon.com:  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_11?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=jack+lalanne+juicer&sprefix=Jack+LaLane%2Caps%2C307

All I did to generate the above link was search for Jack Lalane Juicer on Amazon.com.

You may  be able to find these in local stores like Bed, Bath & Beyond and Walmart but let your fingers do the walking for you!  Enjoy!  This juicer also has a great recipe book and more recipes online at allrecipes.com

Roasted Garlic

August 11th, 2012 Posted in Recipes

Buy a set of five or six garlic heads and place them in a baking dish after rubbing off the loose outer dry skin.  Pour a small amount of extra virgin olive oil or grapeseed oil over each head and bake at 375 for around 50 mins or until brown.  Let cool and squeeze out of cloves into jar or right on your favorite bread.  You don’t need to add any butter and you’ll never miss it either!  I absolutely love this on bread, can be added to sauces, stir fry and any place you use crushed garlic. But be ready to clear the house because this is a very fragrant dish.  At lease it’s one way to get the kids out of the house!

Prevent Intestinal Parasites

August 5th, 2012 Posted in Recipes, Remedies

Intestinal parasites can be consumed by eating leafy vegetables that have not been properly cleaned.  ALWAYS  wash your produce.  Baking soda can be used to remove waxes from apples and other polished fruits.   Veggie Wash  can be used on delicate and leafy produce.  A salad spinner can also be used to dry leafy vegetables for serving.

Natural Cures for Razor Burn

August 1st, 2012 Posted in Beauty, Recipes

The traditional treatment would be use a wash for acne and follow with triple antibiotic cream.  A great home remedy is is to apply prepared oatmeal and allow to dry for 5 minutes before wiping off.  You could also use sour cream, just don’t allow it to get inside if used on the bikini line.  The use of the triple antibiotic cream is always a good idea on any kind of rash or abrasion.

Today’s tip comes from “The Doctors”  show on ABC networks.

Spinach Dip with Water Chestnuts

July 31st, 2012 Posted in Recipes

This is one of my absolute favorite snacks to have around.  The kids even love it. And use my substitution tips to up the protein content of the dish and bring it naturally into balance!

Take one package of Simply Organic Spinach Dip Mix  and add 2 cups of sour cream as the recipe state or substitute Greek Yogurt for a healthier twist.  You can also add a big handful of fresh spinach either when you mix it or after it has set.  Make sure to refrigerate for at least 2 – 4 hours before serving to allow the flavors to blend.

I also add one can of diced water chestnuts to add that wonderful crunch if I intend to serve with crackers.  If not, just use carrot sticks to scoop it up to get that same crunch and great flavor!

July 26th, 2012 Posted in Beauty, Girl Stuff, Product replacements, Recipes

This summer, many of us are having fun just staying home and pampering ourselves.  I’ll be posting many recipes to help you stay on budget and still get quality results.  Here’s the first installment:

Homemade Foot Scrub

Mix the juice of 2 lemons with baking soda to create a paste.  scrub damp feet with paste and rinse in warm water.

The above scrub is not only refreshing but the lemon juice contains antibacterial properties that may help to prevent some common foot fungi.

Healthy Drinks for Kids!

July 26th, 2012 Posted in Recipes

The hot summer weather keeps children in our refrigerators looking for something to drink and that usually means soda pop!  Instead, you can create mixes that will work great with shaved ice or club soda.  Just use these flavors and have some fun by adding your favorite fruits.  Use your blender to turn your fruit, water, stevia and flavors into a smooth, sugar free additive for the kids.  (Leftovers mix great with your favorite alcohol too.)
