A Call for Artists from the Gateway Center for the Arts Debary FL

April 10th, 2013 Posted in Crafts, Events
Calling all artists!

Art Springs Eternal
Exhibition

April 28- June 22

If you missed the paint out, there is still time to capture your image from one of our area springs and submit your piece(s) for exhibition at Gateway.

Submissions are due on April 19 and 20.

GWCApril2013

You are encouraged to submit up to three paintings for an exhibit entitled Art Springs Eternal to take place at Gateway Center for the Arts from April 28 through June 22. Art Springs Eternal is a nod to our state’s 500th birthday and part of our celebration of VIVA Florida 500. It was a myth that Juan Ponce de Leon came to Florida hoping to find the Fountain of Youth, but one visit to a Florida spring will certainly rejuvenate your mindset and make you understand how this myth might have been propagated.

There is no fee to participate in the paint out, although there is a fee of $25 to submit one image for inclusion in the exhibition at GCA, and $15 per additional image, with a maximum of three total pieces submitted for exhibition.

How to Enter

*bring your painting(s) and a check for $25 for one entry and $15 per additional, (maximum of three) payable to Gateway Center for the Arts on either April 19 or 20 and fill out entry form.

Exhibiting at Gateway

Your painting(s) will be exhibited at Gateway in either the formal gallery or the theater gallery, at the discretion of the Gateway staff. If your piece(s) is sold, GCA will retain a 40% commission from sales by non-member artists and 30% from the sale of a painting by an artist who is a member of Gateway Center for the Arts. Pieces may not exceed 72″ in any one direction. All paintings must be suitably framed with wood, metal or plastic and use screw eyes and wire on the back. For unframed canvases, those with exposed unfinished and stapled edges are not acceptable.

Blue Springs is a first magnitude spring and is located at 2450 W. French Avenue, Orange City, Florida. Park hours are 8:00 am until sundown. For directions click here

Gemini Springs, a second magnitude spring, is located at 37 Dirksen Drive, Debary, Florida. Park hours are sunrise to sunset. For directions click here

Green Springs, a third magnitude spring, is located at 994 Enterprise Osteen Road, Deltona, Florida. It, too, is open sunrise to sunset. For directions click here

Paintings for the exhibit need to be delivered to Gateway on Friday, April 19 (between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm) or Saturday, April 20 (between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm). The exhibition will open on Sunday, April 28 and there will be an opening reception from 2-4 pm.

A note from Dale at DaleKeating.com

March 3rd, 2013 Posted in Business, Crafts

My name is Dale Keating and I am writing to let you know about a free giveaway. I am a self-published author and artisan and have recently published “CANDLE SCONCES; A STEP BY STEP GUIDE”. It is a full color stained glass pattern book for glass crafters of all levels. There are 16 stained glass candle sconce patterns and it has over 122 photos and diagrams detailing each step so even a novice can make a sconce. Customers are always looking for something new and I know they will love these unique designs! (Please see the attached PDF for more information.) I have never seen any other book or even on-line patterns that are similar to the designs offered in this book. They are also perfect for silver backed glass and many of the patterns incorporate bevels, etching, and beads.

It just so happens I kept all 16 sconces that were photographed for the gallery and currently they are just gathering dust on my wall. So I’ve decided it makes much more sense to give them away to stained glass shops to use as a display. Unfortunately I only have 16 so it will be first come first served. If you are interested in receiving a display sconce I may be contacted by email or through my website. All I need is proof that you purchased at least 3 books and you must have an actual retail shop that sells stained glass supplies. I will mail out the sconces at the end of March.

Wholesale suppliers D&L Art Glass Supply (1-800-525-0940) and Rainbow Art Glass (1-800-526-2356) now carry my book and other distributors have expressed interest so don’t be shy to ask your favorite supplier for a copy. I will be updating the wholesale contact list on my website “Press Room” page periodically to make it easier for you to obtain a copy.

Orange Pomander Centerpiece

November 20th, 2012 Posted in Crafts

Here is a great smelling centerpiece that you can get the kids to help you make.  Use wooden skewers to poke the holes and let your kids fill them with the cloves and help you arrange the plate.  Fun and it lasts almost a week if you remember to refrigerate at night. I’ve used lemongrass instead of rosemary so mix it up and make it fun! Click here for the instructions59050_560344663981023_1598655527_n.jpg
