National Bulk Foods Week October 12-18

September 17th, 2014 Posted in Products, Savings Tips, WholeSum Thoughts
Again this year, the Bulk is Green Council (BIG) is sponsoring National Bulk Foods Week to raise awareness about the environmental and economic benefits of buying foods from bulk bins. In 2013, more than 1,200 grocery stores and co-ops across the country joined BIG in celebrating National Bulk Foods Week.
BIG was founded in 2008 to highlight the advantages of bulk buying — which offers consumers the opportunity to save money, reduce food waste and decrease their carbon footprint through reduced packaging.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) say that roughly 30 to 40 percent of the food supply in the United States goes to waste. The EPA also reports that more food goes into landfills nationwide than any other single material — more than 34 million tons of food waste in 2010. Buying food in bulk, with the ability to buy the exact quantity needed, results in less food waste. National Bulk Foods Week encourages consumers to be conscious of the waste they produce and offers a ready path to more sustainable buying.

If you are interested in buying bulk foods, checkout www.frontiercoop.com and contact Laura with your order….always 20% off SRP of most products listed including BULK!

butterflyanimation-14If you are thinking about a major purchase that will have to be paid off over a few years, be very careful about predicting your future income. As Forest Gump said “life is a box of chocolates you never know what you might get.” Emergencies happen and just when you think it can not get any worse it does. Give yourself a cushion with lots of financial padding.

Rubbing_alcoholRubbing alcohol has more then one use. It is great to use to help clean, shine and sanitize your house. Just pour some into a spray bottle and then you can spritz it on the bathroom chrome, it will help make it shiny and germ free. It also works well in the shower to kill germs and cut soap scum. Kills germs without the dangers of bleach.

Going Paperless

paying-billsIf you are willing to go paperless you may be able to save money. I recently inquired about a discount on my auto insurance for taking a safe driving course and was told the savings was 4 dollars a year but if I was willing to go paperless it was 90 dollars a year. Yes save 90 dollars by going paperless. It took approximately 10 minutes to do and I still had the same payment options. Check with companies that send you paper and see if going paperless can save you dollars.
